The Jack's Lavender Crew is a cohort of teens who are learning new life and career skills while planning and preparing for their future. Each Crew Member brings unique experiences, skills, talents, and insight to our program. Together, they are developing the farm and shaping our program to be long-lasting and life changing for Lake County Teens for years to come! Our Crew Members range in ages from 12 to 17 years old. Each year we serve four eighth grade Crew Interns, and eight 9th-12th grade Crew Members. We are a more than a Crew, we are family.

JLF Alumni
Alizae
Alizae attended the very first meeting advertised for JLF back in October of 2020! Without her belief in the vision of JLF and her unwavering commitment to the development of the organization, Jack's Lavender Farm would still be scribbles noted in a journal. Alizae graduated from Konocti Education Center in June of 2022 and received her Next Steps Scholarship from Jack's Lavender Farm in the amount of $2400 dollars. Alizae currently resides in Utah and is using her Next Steps Scholarship to travel to Bali in August of 2023, where she will learn more about the world through travel and volunteerism.
Alex
Alex graduated from Konocti Education Center in 2021. He believes that Lake County holds a great many treasures that have been left untouched and unused for far too long. The beauty, weather, and environment in the area lend themselves so well to tourism, outdoor events, and of course agriculture. Alex feels that Jack's Lavender Farm incorporates all these aspects while allowing future generations something to do that is beneficial to themselves and supportive of the community. Beyond the allure of the Next Steps Service Award and potential help with future endeavors, Alex's main interest in being a part of the farm was just knowing that he was helping to start something amazing. Alex joined the Air Force in June of 2020 and will follow with a focus on aviation and business. Alex received his Next Steps Scholarship in the amount of $530, which he invested for future use.
Our Partners
As a startup non- profit, the funding, resources, and materials we require to operate are gifted to us from those who believe in the future of Lake County, the impact of youth development programs or have an overwhelming love for lavender. Without the support from these individuals and organizations, Jack's Lavender Farm would not exist.
Helen Mitcham
When Helen learned about the vision of JLF in July 2020, her response was far beyond anything anyone could have dreamed of. Without Helen's gracious land partnership, and belief in our founder’s ideas, JLF would not exist. We are grateful for her endless commitment to supporting youth in our area, and for allowing us to establish our founding farm on her beautiful land in Spring Valley. We look forward to expanding back to her land in the future to bring the dream of a lavender farm in Spring Valley to fruition. Did you know we are called Jack’s Lavender Farm in honor of Jack, Helen’s husband?
Spring Valley Lakes Property Owners Association (SVLPOA)
The Spring Valley Lakes Property Owners Association has been a huge supporter of Jack’s Lavender Farm since its inception in allowing us to use the Spring Valley Community Center for our meetings, product development and local events. They have provided a climate-controlled space where we can gather, collaborate, create, plan and grow.
Victor’s Lavender
In the summer of 2020, our founder, after six years of planning, found the missing puzzle piece for her dream to build a space and structure for teens in her area to achieve successful transitions into adulthood. That missing piece was lavender. She called nine lavender farm owners, and Victor from Victor’s Lavender called back within an hour. He listened to the vision of creating a non-profit that could sustain itself through lavender, and immediately expressed interest in the project. Victor is known as the “Father of Lavender” across the county and world. He is an international expert in lavender propagation and provides consultancy for lavender farmers near and far. He has donated over 5,000 plants to JLF, as well as harvesting tools, lavender oil, and hours of free consultancy with our founder/director. Additionally, he makes trips to meet and teach the JLF Crew, and delivered our second order of lavender plants free of charge. He, his wife Maribel, and their team have provided the roots of JLF from the start. If you want to know anything about lavender, reach out to Victor or take a trip to his gorgeous farm in Sequim, Washington.
Six Sigma Ranch
After nearly two years building our founding farm in Spring Valley, we determined that in order to keep growing, we needed to expand our operations to a region in our area that had more exposure to the public, and more water. After meeting with numerous land owners within the southeastern corner of the county, the Six Sigma Ranch & Vineyard team embraced our vision with open arms and open minds. We learned in a few meetings that their team was just as committed to education, youth and community development, and healthy living as we, and the rest of our partners are. We signed a 20-year lease in September of 2022, and have been working hard since to develop the most magical and impactful lavender farm in Lake County! Six Sigma is more than a ranch or winery, it is a place to call home and connect with your loved ones. From the relaxed beauty, no-stress environment, to the extensive hiking and biking trails and the soon to be here, Huttopia, Six Sigma Ranch is the place to be!
Wilwand Family Lavender Fields
The father of one of the JLF Founders reached out with a contact for an abandoned lavender farm two hours north of our operations. We called, and Mike Wilwand answered. He, like so many others, listened and learned about our work; the smile and ease in his voice on the other end of the line let us know that we had just established a lovely- lavender partnership. After losing our first crop of lavender plants to boron, and operating for nearly a year without lavender, Jack’s Lavender Farm would have lavender again! We began working the abandoned lavender fields in July of 2022, harvesting bundles and pruning as many of the 30,000 plants as we possibly could. The bundles our Crew harvest and use in our products, as well as the oil we will distill next year, comes from the Wilwand Family Lavender Fields. We make monthly and bi-monthly trips to Laytonville to continue learning, growing, harvesting and farming the mature lavender plants to ensure our newly planted lavender at Six Sigma grows and produces just as well to meet all of our farming and sale needs!
JLF Crew Member Mentors
Research has proven time and time again that mentors make a big difference in youth development. Our volunteer mentors meet with JLF Farmers virtually or in person, to talk about life, school, the Farm, and their future goals and plans! Our mentors come from all walks of life and from all over the world. There are no words to express our gratitude for each and every one of our current and past mentors for their incredible support, impact, and love for the teens at JLF!
Board of Directors
The volunteer Pegasus (DBA Jack’s Lavender Farm) Board of Directors meets monthly to collaborate, plan, review, reflect and strategize on how we can uphold and continue our mission of Cultivating Opportunity. Each board member cares about creating a powerful youth development program in Lake County, and actively participates in program operations, leadership and community activities.
