Our Program

We live in an area charmed with clean air, world- class fishing, gorgeous wineries, and genuine small-town vibes. We also live in an area that is suffering from a vicious cycle of generational poverty. This cycle has resulted in an opportunity gap beyond measure, and we believe that anyone who can help to break this cycle, should. On the surface, Jack’s Lavender Farm is about the calm, beauty, and magic that lavender inspires. Yet, when you dig a little deeper, you will discover that Jack’s Lavender Farm is the home of a supportive teen development program that is changing lives for the better.

Our Program:

  • Increases Access and Bridges the Opportunity Gap
  • Interrupts the Cycle of Generational Poverty
  • Fosters the Development of Essential Life Skills
  • Creates Joy and Serves our Community
  • Supports Healthy Teen Development through Empowerment and Belonging
  • Creates structure for teens to achieve healthy transitions into adulthood
  • Provides Scholarships for Next Steps

Jack’s Lavender Farm Program Highlights

Lavender & Produce Farming

A seed, a root, the soil, the climate, consistency, patience, hard work, perseverance and belief in what will come, becomes a part of the lives of the teens who come to Jack's Lavender Farm. We provide a place and space where teens connect with Mother Nature - learning from, and growing with her.

Business Sense & Employability

Understanding financing, budgeting, marketing, professionalism, customer relations, and the importance of teamwork at the heart of the sustainability and success of Jack’s Lavender Farm. Our teens  provide insight, collaborate, learn, try and make decisions to propel their organization forward.

Teen Entrepreneur Micro-Investing

You never know until you try! We believe in the dreams of teens and are whole-heartedly committed to supporting them. Any Crew Member who has an idea for a prospective business can work with us to develop and execute their business plan. We finance their start-up business with the goal of our Crew Member graduating the program with a business 100% ready to walk into and call their own!

Next Steps Scholarships

Upon high-school completion, qualifying JLF Farmers can apply for a Next Steps Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to pursue their futures in one of the following areas: Entrepreneurship, International Travel & Volunteerism, Long-Term Investments and Higher Education. We aren't messing around here, and we know what it takes to get ahead. We are here to help make that happen.

Academic Support

Balancing life, the Farm and school can be a lot. Through a few years of distance learning in due to COVID, and having straight A’s can be a challenge. Our goal is that our Farmers complete their secondary education “on-time”. When they share with us that they are struggling with their studies,  we offer the time, space and tutoring after-school to help them get back on track with their education.

Mentorship

Volunteer Mentors from around the globe dedicated to supporting youth development are available for our Farmers to be another positive adult on their side. Our mentors lend an ear in tough times, provide encouragement and insight, as well as guide our teens to develop their Next Steps Plan for success beyond high school.

Access to New Resources & Opportunities

It is easy to feel like there is nothing to do, nowhere to go, and no one who cares when you live in a rural area and are not connected to the world beyond your front door. We create connections by joining support systems, resources and people to our Farmers.

Community Service

Once a month, Jack’s Lavender Farm hosts a community service event for the residents of our founding communities. Our teens create, plan  and manage these events! We think it is pretty cool that we get to serve our community, create joy, spark unity and share smiles 12 time a year!

Transportation

We believe the biggest deterrent for teens in our area is a lack of transportation. We are a spread out county, and public transportation is not an option for many. Time and time again, teens are unable to engage in empowering and healthy life activities because they simply, “don’t have a ride”. It is hard to grow, connect and thrive if you can’t show up. So…we bought a van. The Crew named her “LaVANder”. She is a 1997 V8 Ford Econoline, 15-passenger van, and she makes this program a possibility. No other program we know of provides transportation to and from all operations! We love her!

A Place to Be

In the hustle and bustle of school, life responsibilities and being a teen, it can be nice, (and Is sometimes very needed), to have a place where one can go to “just be”. We all need a break from time to time, so we have created a safe and peaceful place for teens to do just that when they need to.

Program & Farm Development

Building a farm and determining the direction of a youth development program is no joke! The skills required to do this are diverse and numerous. Our founding teens benefit from experiences, successes and challenges that farming brings, helping them to prepare for life after high school in a very real way.
